August 5, 2024Historic Manchester Building Undergoes Modern Transformation
Background
Nestled in the heart of Manchester, 16 Kennedy Street stands as a testament to the city‘s rich architectural heritage with multiple historic features, such as a traditional vault in the basement. Dating back to the 1800s, this 4-storey, multi-purpose building is undergoing a full refurbishment, transforming its interior into a modern mix of apartments and retail spaces.
Project Challenges
The historical charm of this structure came with its own set of challenges; notably, its narrow doorways and staircases which posed unique obstacles that demanded careful planning for temporary works support during the remediation process.
The project was originally specified to use a heavy-duty, steel temporary works support system, but the installer, Tranco Ltd, wanted this to be changed to our TITAN support system.
Project Solution
Tranco Ltd requested this change to the project‘s specification, due to the system‘s high load capacity yet lightweight, aluminium nature as it would better suit the projects needs, offering easier installation and more space for operatives to navigate the remediation works.
With a clear understanding of the project‘s requirements, we worked closely with Tranco Ltd to formulate a plan to implement our man-handleable system throughout the building, ensuring full support could be provided from the basement to the 4th floor, facilitating uninterrupted progress across all areas of the structure.
